This term in our Gospel Teams or Small Groups we are looking at the Gospel of Luke and especially using the ‘Search’ resource. Our aim is that we might all be able to sit down and read the Bible with an enquirer using this resource.
Ruth – A Story of Love and Redemption (4, 11, 18, 25 May)
For our Sunday sermons over the term we have begun with a four week series on the book of Ruth. Later in the term we will spend some time in Luke’s Gospel with a particular focus on Chapter 10.
Big Issues – What do we think about Gay Marriage? (Carlton & Bank – 1 & 8 June, Bexley & Bexley North – 15 & 22 June)
In addition we will spend a couple of weeks thinking about a very big issue in our society at the moment. We will be thinking about all sorts of questions that every one of us needs to be thinking through if we are going to interact with our friends and our society on this issue. Questions such as:
• What does the Bible say about homosexuality?
• Is it intolerant to speak against homosexual activity?
• What does the Bible have to say to Christians who experience same sex attraction?
• Why wouldn’t we support marriage for homosexual people? Surely the Bible wants to support faithfulness and fidelity?
These are just some of the questions we will be thinking about (I am sure you already have many more!).
Kids Holiday Club - 8-11 July; Celebration service 13 July
KHC is a 4-day holiday camp for primary school aged children. Each year over 100 kids from our local area pack into the hall at St James Carlton to sing, play games, eat, pray, hear from God’s word, memorise Bible verses, laugh and have fun together.
Last year we transformed the church into a medieval castle filled with courageous knights, damsels-in-distress, dragons, jousting, feasts and excitement. We heard all about Jesus the true king who is worthy to be followed!
This year our theme is Super Impossible Promises. Our KHC will be set in Super Impossible World, a made up computer game world similar to Super Mario Brothers. We will look at God’s word and see how he is faithful to his promises. The Big Idea of the week is ‘If you trust in Jesus you will live in a perfect world forever’.
When: July 8th-11th. Wrapping up with a celebration service on Sunday 13th at each of our morning sites.
Where: St James Carlton
