Did you know that it’s only 6 weeks ‘til Christmas? I love Christmas! I’m really looking forward to it! I love spending time with my family. I love eating turkey and ham for a week straight! I love watching my nieces and nephews open presents. I love singing Christmas carols and eating shortbread. I love celebrating Jesus’ birth with my church family. I love Christmas time!
But for many people Christmas is a difficult time. Anglicare statistics tell us that, of the families that seek emergency help from them, approximately 2500 of those families are living on less than $400 per week. Many people in our community don’t have enough money for food or Christmas presents. For many people Christmas is a very hard time.
There is a way that we can help. This year at SNAC we are going to get involved with Anglicare’s Toys ‘n’ Tucker appeal.
What is Toys ‘n’ Tucker?
Toys ‘n’ Tucker is an initiative of Anglicare Sydney which aims to share the joy of Christmas and demonstrate God’s love by providing food and gifts for those who would otherwise go without.
Here’s how it works
We here at SNAC are going to donate gifts and food over the next 3 Sundays. Bring them up and put them on the stage each week and we’ll build a huge pile of presents and food. After that Anglicare will pick up all the things we’ve donated. They’ll pack them all up into Christmas hampers for people and families in our community and then deliver them to those in need.
Here are some different items that we could donate
Food – tinned veges, tinned ham, tinned fruit, Christmas pudding, biscuits, tea, lollies, jam, coffee, pancake mix, long life milk, sugar, pasta. Just make sure it’s non-perishable and unbreakable.
Toys – good quality toys, games, educational toys, picture books, outdoor games, sporting equipment, gift cards, toiletry packs.
What can you do now?
We would love if every household would set aside 10 minutes this week to think about how you could be part of Toys ‘n’ Tucker. Christmas is a wonderful time because it reminds us of how generous God has been to us. He gave us Jesus!
In Luke 2 we see the angels telling the shepherds of this great gift!
10 But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news
of great joy that will be for all the people: 11 Today a Savior, who is Messiah the Lord,
was born for you in the city of David. 12 This will be the sign for you: You will find a baby
wrapped snugly in cloth and lying in a feeding trough.”13 Suddenly there was a multitude
of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: 14 Glory to God in the
highest heaven, and peace on earth to people He favors!
We want to be generous to others because God’s been so generous to us! Christmas is a great time to do that! Please be praying over the next 6 weeks that God might use the generosity of his people to bring many to know him this Christmas.
