Weekly SNAC, 17 June 2018 - What does ‘KHC’ stand for?

There are many reasons you would think that KHC stands for ‘Kids Holiday Club’. One obvious reason is that you will find the words ‘Kids Holiday Club’ written on every piece of advertising for KHC. However, I wish to suggest that, contrary to popular opinion, the letter ‘K’ in KHC actually stands for a very unusual word that you’ve probably never heard of. This word is ‘Kidsteensadults’. You wouldn’t have heard of it because it’s a word that was only recently invented. The word means people from every age group. The reason this word was invented is to remind us that KHC involves people of every age group including kids, teenagers and adults. There are many reasons you would think that KHC stands for ‘Kids Holiday Club’. Of course, it’s easy to see why kids are involved in KHC. They are the ones who enjoy a week of learning about Jesus, games, craft and Star Wars themed fun. However, they are also the ones who invite their friends, welcome kids from our community and share the good news of Jesus over morning tea and in discussion groups. But KHC is not just for kids.

KHC is also a great opportunity for many teenagers in our church to proclaim the gospel, grow as disciples of Jesus and serve together. They set up, clean up, plan and run games, help kids with craft, lead singing, and provide a HUGE amount of energy for the week. It’s also an opportunity for them to lead small groups of kids, teaching them the gospel and modelling what it looks like to follow Jesus.

KHC is also a great opportunity for adults across our church to serve. From praying to small group leading, cooking to chatting to parents, setting and packing up - there are ways for everyone at SNAC to be involved in KHC. Here are a few different ways suggested by Sarah and the KHC team:

1. Parents Café
- Each day at KHC as parents sign their kids in they are invited to hang around for a cuppa and some morning tea.
- We need bakers to provide morning tea before or during the week.
- We need people who are available to help out taking orders and making pod coffee.
- If you are available to do either of these things please contact Heather (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)

2. Craft
- Each day our kids take home a themed craft. This is a highlight for many kids! If you’re crafty (or if you can use a pair of scissors) and are happy to help with things before or during the week please contact Carmel (This email address is being protected from spambots. 3. Design
- Each year we transform the church to fit the theme (Star Wars). If you’re interested in designing or constructing some of the decorations then please contact Avril (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
- We could also use extra help on Set Up Day (Monday July 16th) so if you’re free please let Avril know.

4. Kitchen
- Each day at KHC we provide morning tea for over 200 kids and leaders. This is a mammoth task and we need people who can help in the kitchen each morning at KHC.
- Or if you can’t be there the week of perhaps you could pre-cook food for the week? If you’d like to help contact Carmel (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)

5. Family Evangelism
- Each year at KHC over 100 families come onto our church site. This is a fantastic opportunity to build connections, welcome them warmly and share the gospel.
- Whether you have non-Christian friends coming along to KHC this year or not we would like to invite your family to come and think about how to make the most of the opportunity for evangelism through KHC. We will share ideas, afternoon tea and pray together.
- The family evangelism training will be on Sunday 8th July at 2:30-4pm at St James Carlton (Cnr Henry & Percival Sts Carlton)
- If you’d like to be involved in this training please contact Jana (0414 248 887 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
- This year, we’re also setting up a whatsapp group where people can share encouragements and prayer points for KHC. If you’re interested in joining the group, please contact Jana.

So next time you see the letters KHC … you just need to think … ah they’re talking about Kidsteensadults Holiday Club.
